Get ready for the latest iteration of Gymkhana, and prepare to be amazed by the most outrageous build yet - the 'Brataroo 9500 Turbo'. This isn't just any Subaru Brat; it's a carbon-bodied, 9,500 rpm lunatic that's set to take Gymkhana to new heights. But here's where it gets controversial... Is this the future of Gymkhana, or just a crazy one-off?
The vehicle is a masterpiece of engineering, built by Vermont SportsCar (VSC) with a spec sheet that will make your head spin. The 2.0-liter boxer engine, built in-house by VSC, now packs a whopping 670 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. It's a beast, no doubt, but the real question is, how did they achieve such power? Is it a modified Subaru EJ or FA-based engine? We'll have to wait and see.
The body is a work of art, constructed entirely from carbon fiber and featuring active aero elements similar to the Huckster. The front fenders have louvers that pivot forward or back to control front aero balance in flight, while the rear wing is fully adjustable mid-flight and comes in two variants: a larger high-downforce wing and a smaller wing for 'general tire-shredding antics'. The widebody kit is designed by Khyzyl Saleem, known as The Kyza on social media.
But the real surprise is inside. The Brataroo has a restored factory radio and HVAC stack repurposed to fit its singular purpose. The HVAC controls are used to adjust the active aero, while the radio and a Uniden CB radio are just in there for the vibes. Travis Pastrana describes it best: 'This Brat's completely unhinged—in the best way possible. It’s got the soul of a vintage Subaru with the tech to do things no Gymkhana car has ever done. Every part of it is designed to take abuse, fly big, and come back for more. It’s hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built.'
The new Gymkhana featuring the Brataroo, called Aussie Shred, will premiere in early December and was filmed in Australia. Knowing Pastrana, it will surely be crazier than ever, with life-defying stunts and lots of risky driving. But will it be the future of Gymkhana, or just a crazy one-off? We'll have to wait and see.
